Gonzalez and Belden Compete at Massachusetts Women's Amateur Championships
The Women's Amateur Championships is a match and stroke play tournament with two qualifying divisions. The top 32 players from the stroke play qualifier moved on to the Championship Bracket, which included Gonzalez, who shot +5 in the qualifier and tied for 13th overall. The President's Cup Bracket included the players who did not qualify for the Championship Bracket.
To start the Round of 32, Gonzalez faced Jennifer Keim (Bayberry Hills Golf Club) and defeated her 5 & 4. The junior captain would move on to face Sue Curtin (Boston Golf Club) and won 1 up.
Gonzalez would face Shannon Johnson (Thorny Leg Golf Club) in the semifinals. Johnson beat Gonzalez 5 & 3 and went on to the win the tournament.
"I played really well this year, making it to the semi final match for the first time," Gonzalez said. "It was a really fun week, and I'm excited to see how I play this fall back at Holy Cross."
Belden played in the President's Cup Bracket and won her first match against Kym Pappathanasi (Renaissance Golf Club) 3 & 1. She was then defeated by Danielle Lee (International) 6 & 5 in the round of 16.
