Volleyball Drops Match At Loyola, 3-1
BALTIMORE, Md. – The Holy Cross volleyball team was defeated at Loyola in four sets on Saturday, Oct. 6. The Crusaders fell in the opening two sets and went on to claim the third set but the comeback effort was not enough as the Greyhounds took the fourth.
Katie Kerins led the Crusaders offense with 12 kills while Regan Wright posted her fifth double-double of the season with 11 kills and 14 digs. Skye Daval-Santos added an impressive 25 digs in the match.
Despite Holy Cross claiming the first two points of the opening set, Loyola jumped to a 13-5 lead. The Crusaders could not close the gap and dropped the set, 25-15.
In the second set there was a lot of back in forth action but the Greyhounds separated the score and claimed the set, 25-20. Skye Daval-Santos posted eight digs in the set and Clare Honan added four of the team’s 10 kills.
The Crusaders picked up the third set, 25-23. Wright helped the Crusaders to an early 5-2 lead. The team’s battled narrowly, trading points and Loyola even took the lead back twice before Holy Cross went on a 6-2 run. Kerins led the Crusaders offense in the third set with five of the team’s 14 kills.
Loyola sealed the game in the fourth set, even though the score was knotted numerous times throughout the set. The Crusaders were even with the Greyhounds until the end of the set, evening the score at 22 before the Greyhounds tallied thee points to win, 25-22. Daval-Santos added 11 digs in the final set.
The Crusaders continue on the road with a match at Lafayette on Friday, Oct. 12 at 7:00 p.m.
