Washington, D.C. – The Holy Cross volleyball team dropped the last match of the GW Tournament against Delaware. The Crusaders lost 3-0 (25-20, 25-23, 25-18) to the Blue Hens. Freshman outside hitter Katie Kerins led Holy Cross with eight kills, and Bailey Pearlman led the Blue Hens with 14 kills (.423 hitting percentage). In addition, freshman libero Sophie VanSeveren had 18 digs against Delware and was named to the George Washington All-Tournament team.

  • The Blue Hens jumped to a 7-4 lead after an attack error from the Crusaders in the first set. Holy Cross fought back to take the lead 13-11. Delaware came back to tie the set at 15-15. The score went back and forth until the end, but the Blue Hens were able to secure the first set 25-20.

  • The second set was very close between both teams with 12 ties and four lead changes. Senior middle hitter Mary Mullen tied the set 10-10 after a kill. The Crusaders kept it close, but in the end, the Blue Hens were able to get the set point 25-23.

  • After falling 9-6 to Delaware in the third set, the Crusaders took a timeout and came within one point making the score 11-10. Delaware would keep the lead for the rest of the set, however, and hold on to win the set 25-18 and the match 3-0.

  • Holy Cross begins Patriot League play this weekend against Lafayette Sept. 22 at 7:00 p.m. in Easton, Pa.
