BALTIMORE, Md. - The Holy Cross volleyball team fell to the Loyola (Md.) Greyhounds 3-0 Friday night. Freshman middle hitter Clare Honan led the Crusader attack with nine kills with a .421 hitting percentage. Freshman libero Sophie VanSeveren tallied 24 digs, and freshman setter Rachel Harding recorded five kills and 13 digs for the Crusaders. Ann Ernst notched 15 kills to lead the Greyhounds' attack.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Senior defensive specialist M.C. Magner tied the first set at 17-17 after an ace. Loyola (Md.) jumped back in the lead 20-18 after a kill from Ernst. After back and forth points, the Greyhounds were able to take the first set 25-21.
Loyola (Md.) recorded three kills in a row to make the score 11-7 in the second set. Loyola (Md.) would control the rest of the set and get the 2-0 lead in the match.
With 11 total ties in the third set, both teams fought to maintain the lead. After a kill by Honan, the Crusaders tied the set at 11-11. Despite going into extra points, Loyola (Md.) was able to secure the victory and won the set, 26-24 and the match, 3-0.
The Crusaders stay on the road and take on Bucknell, Saturday, Oct. 14 at 5 p.m.
