The Crusaders opened the scoring 47 seconds into the game when Johnny Coughlin picked up a breakout attempt, circled the zone and shot to the far post where T.J. Moore was there to bang it home.
Holy Cross extended the lead to 2-0, when Scott Pooley tipped in Charlie Barrow’s shot from the right point. Scott Pooley was in the slot to tip the puck in.
Bentley took a major penalty with less than 15 minutes remaining in the first period, and Holy Cross was able to get their first powerplay goal of the season. In a tic-tac-toe play, Coughlin moved the puck across the zone to Barrow and then to Moore, whose shot went top-shelf.
The Crusaders extended their lead to 4-0 in the first period when Pooley added his second of the game. In a two-on-one, Logan Ferguson carried the puck into the zone after forcing a neutral zone turnover. Ferguson moved the puck across the zone to Pooley on the back door.
Andrew Dumaresque scored his first collegiate goal just over four minutes into the second period. Peter Crinella entered the offensive zone and sent the puck to Dumaresque in the slot, whose shot bounced past Bentley’s Aidan Pelino.
Paul Berrafato collected his seventh career shutout, and first of the 2017-18 season with 27 saves.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
Holy Cross outshot Bentley, 30-27.
Bentley collected 37 penalty minutes on nine penalties while Holy Cross had 48 minutes on nine penalties.
The Holy Cross penalty kill went 5-5.
The Crusaders went 1-5 on the power play, scoring their first man-advantage goal of the season.
Bentley outshot Holy Cross, 18-7, in the second period.
The Crusaders held the advantage at the faceoff dot, winning 34 of 62.
The Crusaders will host ECAC opponent, Dartmouth, at the Hart Center on Friday, Oct. 27 at 7:05 p.m.
