Women's Track & Field Defeats New Hampshire

DURHAM, New Hampshire - The Holy Cross women's track and field team defeated UNH, 232.5-194.5.

NEW HAMPSHIRE HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Senior Zoe Matherne finished first in the 1000m with a finals time of 3:01.07. Matherne also placed first in the mile run with a time of 5:01.93.
  • Senior Kate Spitler was right behind Matherne in the 1000m with a second place finish (3:09.61).
  • Freshman Jenna Gasparrini finished first in the 3000m (10:12.15).
  • Senior Morgan Sanders placed first in the 55m hurdles (8.35). Victoria Zamarra placed third in the same event (8.61).
  • The Crusaders took the first three places in the 800m. Seniors Meghan Dietter placed first (2:22.02), Claire Turner finished second (2:22.21) and Elizabeth Larkin placed third (2:27.28). 
  • Senior Kelly O'Halloran finished third in the 500m (1:21.88). 
  • In the 400m, senior Caroline Frey placed first with a time of 1:00.05. Senior Hailey Mulville placed third (1:01.05). 
  • Taylor Gelsner finished first in the triple jump (10.85m). 
ECAC QUALIFIERS:
  • Sophomore Allie Smiley recorded a 7.21 in the preliminaries for the 55m dash, which was a personal best. 
  • Freshman Christa Jay Moore recorded a personal best 3.75 in the pole vault.
NEW ENGLAND CHAMPIONSHIPS QUALIFIERS:
  • Junior Alexandra Curtin recorded a 7.27 and first place finish in the 55m dash. Junior Sarah Friess placed second in the 55m dash (7.28). 
  • Matherne's first place finish in the 1000m (3:01.07) gave her a qualifiying time (this time will convert).
  • Gasparrini qualified with her time in the 3000m (10:12.15) (This time will convert).
  • Sanders recorded a 8.35 in the 60m hurldes, which is a personal record.
  • Freshman Abbie Mokwuah qualified with a 12.50 throw in the shot put and 15.42 in the weight throw. 
  • Smiley posted a 5.46m jump in the long jump and Curtin also qualified with a 5.57m jump.

The Crusaders will compete at the John Thomas Terrier Classic in Boston, Mass on Jan. 26.
