Jehyve Floyd Named Patriot League Defensive Player Of The Year

WORCESTER, Mass. – Holy Cross junior forward Jehyve Floyd has been named the 2017-2018 Patriot League Defensive Player of the Year in men’s basketball. Floyd was also selected third team All-Patriot League and earned a spot on the Patriot League All-Defensive Team. In addition, freshman guard Austin Butler was chosen to the Patriot League All-Rookie team.

Floyd has averaged 11.8 points, 5.7 rebounds and 2.2 blocked shots per game this season, while connecting on 65.7 percent of his field goal attempts (151 of 230). He currently leads the Patriot League in field goal percentage and blocked shots, while standing 11th in rebounding and 20th in scoring. Floyd also ranks sixth in the nation in field goal percentage and 30th in blocked shots. He has led the team in scoring nine times, rebounding 14 times and blocks 22 times this year, while scoring in double-figures 18 times. Over the course of his career with the Crusaders, Floyd has now totaled 497 points, 262 rebounds and 109 blocked shots with a .637 field goal percentage (219 of 344).

Butler has averaged 9.5 points and 3.6 rebounds per game this season, while hitting 70.7 percent of his free throws. He was even more effective against Patriot League opponents, with averages of 11.5 points and 4.6 rebounds per contest in conference play. Butler has led the team in scoring six times and rebounding five times this year, in addition to scoring in double figures 16 times. During Patriot League regular season play, he ranked 22nd in the conference in scoring.

Holy Cross (11-18, 8-10 Patriot League), which finished sixth in the conference regular season standings, returns to action on Thursday, March 1, when it travels to Navy for a quarterfinal round game in the Patriot League Tournament. The contest between the Crusaders and the Midshipmen is scheduled to tip-off at 7:00 p.m. from Alumni Hall.
