Zoe Matherne Named Crusader Of The Year
WORCESTER, Mass. – Senior Zoe Matherne, a member of the Holy Cross women’s track and field and cross country teams, has been selected as the 2017-2018 Crusader of the Year. The most prestigious student-athlete award presented by the Holy Cross Varsity Club, the Crusader of the Year goes to a senior who has excelled not only in varsity athletics, but also in the classroom and the community, and has been prominent in campus activities.
Matherne is currently the all-time Holy Cross record holder in six different events on the track: the outdoor 400-meter run (57.22), the indoor 800-meter run (2:08.07), the outdoor 800-meter run (2:07.78), the indoor 1,000-meter run (2:45.95), the outdoor 1,500-meter run (4:26.23) and the indoor mile (4:47.18). She won the 2017 New England Indoor Championship in the 1,000-meter run and the 2017 Patriot League Outdoor Championship in the 800-meter run, while qualifying for the 2017 NCAA Championship in the outdoor 800-meter run. In cross country, she placed 12th at the 2017 Patriot League Championship and the 2016 ECAC Championship.
Over the course of her collegiate career, Matherne has earned All-Patriot League honors in track all four years and in cross country once. She was also named All-ECAC in both track and cross country, and All-New England in track.
In the classroom, Matherne owns a cumulative grade point average of 3.60 with a major in history. She has been named to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll four times in cross country and three times in track. The vice president of Holy Cross’ Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, she was also a volunteer at Abby’s House and a tutor and counselor with Community Based Learning at the Worcester Public Schools.
Matherne will be presented with the Crusader of the Year award at the 63rd annual Holy Cross Varsity Club Hall of Fame Dinner & Ceremonial Banquet, to be held on Saturday, April 28, in the Hogan Campus Center.
