Holy Cross Names Kathleen Colpoys '12 Head Volleyball Coach
WORCESTER, Mass. - Holy Cross Interim Director of Athletics Brendan Sullivan is pleased to announce the hiring of Kathleen Colpoys ’12 as the next head volleyball coach. Colpoys will take over the program effective May 1.
“I am thrilled to welcome Kathleen back to Holy Cross as our next head volleyball coach,” Sullivan said. “She is intimately familiar with this program and its goals and brings firsthand knowledge of what it takes to achieve success on and off the court within an academically rigorous environment. With her unique perspective and deep-rooted passion for Crusader volleyball, I have no doubt she will continue to elevate this program, and I am excited to see her carry out her vision for this team’s future.”
Colpoys returns to Holy Cross after four seasons as the head coach at Stonehill College, where she guided the Skyhawks to the Northeast-10 Conference Tournament Semifinal in 2017. Throughout her tenure, her student-athletes have earned several individual athletic and academic honors, including an AVCA All-East Region selection, two NE10 All-Conference nods, three league all-rookie honors, two NE10 Academic All-Conference accolades and a CoSIDA Academic All-District recognition. The Skyhawks also won the AVCA Team Academic Award in 2016-2017 and 2017-2018.
In addition to her coaching duties, Colpoys redesigned a leadership development series for Stonehill student-athletes and also served as the athletics department’s representative for the Alcohol and Other Drugs Committee. She was a facilitator for the Mentors in Violence Prevention (MVP) and Brief Alcohol Screening and Intervention for College Students (BASICS) programs, as well.
Prior to her time with the Skyhawks, Colpoys was a graduate assistant at the University of New Hampshire, winning America East Conference titles and qualifying for the NCAA Tournament in 2013 and 2014.
"I would like to thank Interim Director of Athletics Brendan Sullivan, Senior Associate Director of Athletics Nick Smith and the entire search committee for believing in my vision for Holy Cross volleyball,” Colpoys said. “I am incredibly excited and honored for the unique opportunity to return to my alma mater and lead the program about which I am so passionate.
“As I learned firsthand in my time as a student-athlete, Holy Cross truly is a special place, and I am looking forward to rejoining the Crusader community. I am eager to begin working with the team in pursuit of success on the court and in the classroom. I would also like to express my sincere gratitude to everyone involved with the Stonehill volleyball program over the past four years."
Colpoys graduated from Holy Cross with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics in 2012. A four-year starter for the Crusaders from 2008-2011 and a team captain during her senior season, Colpoys is the only player in program history to record more than 700 kills and 200 blocks over her career. She ranks second in program history in career hitting percentage (.236), fifth in career blocks (214) and eighth in career kills (755).
