WORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross field hockey team will take on two opponents this weekend, LIU Brooklyn on Friday at home and Dartmouth on Sunday on the road.

The Crusaders will be looking to earn their first victory of the season after a hard-fought defensive battle in their home-opening 1-0 loss to Columbia. Head coach Lindsay Jackson and the squad are undeterred and remain determined heading into these two matchups.

We are excited for this weekend," Jackson said. "We are ready to get back into action and to be home again on Friday night. We are focused on making some small adjustments and creating a stronger attacking effort.  With LIU Brooklyn being such a young program we need to be prepared for anything and everything. Dartmouth has been off to a strong start so we need to bring our best effort."

Things to know about Holy Cross (0-5):

  • Four Crusaders have registered points on the season, seniors Emily Loprete (one goal, one assist) and Suzanne Noone (one assist), junior Madeline Alderfer (one goal, one assist), and sophomore Courtney McMullen (one goal).
  • Junior Marcia LaPlante has the highest save percentage out of all three goalkeepers this weekend with a mark of .792, which ranks her 11th in the country. She is allowing 4.02 goals per game.
  • These two games will be the Crusaders’ last before they begin Patriot League play next Saturday, Sept. 22 at home against American.

Things to know about LIU Brooklyn (0-6):

  • LIU Brooklyn has been outscored 26-7 in its first six games, all losses.
  • This will be the first matchup ever between the Blackbirds and Crusaders. LIU's program's first season was in 2016. 
  • They are led by Eva VanWakeren’s seven points from three goals and one assist.
  • Molly Jannell has recorded a .671 save percentage and is allowing 4.38 goals per game.

Things to know about Dartmouth (2-2):

  • Dartmouth finished last season at 7-10 and 2-5 in Ivy League play.
  • This year, they are led by Katie Spanos’ seven points coming from three goals and one assist.
  • Hailey Valerio has drawn all four starts in goal and has posted a 3.38 goals against average and a .698 save percentage.
  • Last season, Dartmouth defeated Holy Cross in a tight 4-3 matchup. Senior Suzanne Noone had an assist in that game for the Crusaders.
