Egan Places Second, Holy Cross Finishes Third at Rhode Island Invitational

NORTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. – Senior Joe Egan finished second as an individual to lead the Holy Cross men’s golf team to a third-place finish out of seven schools in the Rhode Island Invitational at the Quidnessett Country Club. Egan totaled a 218 over three rounds to finish at two-over par.

Senior Jake Peer tied for 13th place overall with a 232, while freshman Jack Phelan and sophomore Connor Phillips tied for 20th with scores of 237. In addition, sophomore Paul Carey and freshman Collin Fitzpatrick tied for 24th with scores of 238.

Rhode Island won the team title with a three-round total of 898, while Holy Cross totaled 914. Dawson Jones of Rhode Island was the individual medalist after finishing at even par (216).

The Crusaders return to action on Saturday, April 20, when they open play in the RTJ Individual Shootout at the Seven Oaks Golf Club in Hamilton, N.Y.

BEYOND THE RESULTS:
• Egan shot a six-under par 66 in Monday’s opening round, good for the lowest score by a Crusader in over 15 years.
• Egan became just the sixth Holy Cross golfer to shoot under 70 since the start of the 2002-2003 season.
• The Crusaders finished ahead of Patriot League foe Lafayette (919) for the second straight tournament.
• The tournament’s first two rounds were played in on again, off again rain, with wind gusts up to 35 miles per hour throughout the two days.
