WORCESTER, Mass. - The Holy Cross volleyball team lost both home matches on Sept. 1 against Columbia (3-0) and URI (3-2). 

Crusaders Against Columbia:

Freshman Regan Wright had eight kills with eight digs on defense. Wright also had three aces against the Lions. Sophomore Clare Honan tallied six kills with a .462 hitting percentage. 

The Lions outdug the Crusaders 49-36 and had 18 more kills than Holy Cross. 

Holy Cross Versus URI:

Freshman Johnna Shamley led the team with 14 kills and 15 digs for her third double-double in five matches. In addition, sophomore Katie Kerins had 11 kills against URI. 

Sophomore setter Kathleen Philo notched 19 assists. Wright had a solid seven kills, 16 digs and five aces. Sophomore libero Sophie VanSeveren recorded 23 digs against the Rams.

The Crusaders will travel to Brooklyn, N.Y., for the Blackbird Invitational starting Friday, Sept. 7 at 12:30 p.m. Holy Cross will take on LIU Brooklyn, George Washington, and South Florida.
