WORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross men’s hockey team skated to its sixth tie on the season versus the Arizona State Sun Devils on Saturday, Nov. 25 at the Hart Center.

The Crusaders started the scoring nine seconds into the opening frame to take a 1-0 lead, but Arizona State responded with a goal of their own one minute later. The second period saw a lot of action as the Crusaders took a 3-1 lead midway through the period. Arizona State again scored two quick goals to even the game, 3-3, heading into the final frame. Neither team converted in the remaining 25 minutes of play and finished in a 3-3 tie.

1-0 HC ( 1st, 0:09, EV): After the opening faceoff, Brett Mulcahy pressured the puck on the Arizona State defensive blue line and forced a turnover for Mitch Collett to pick up and skate in alone on Arizona State’s Joey Daccord.Collett backhanded around the Sun Devil’s netminder’s pad.

1-1 ASU (1st, 01:11, EV): Arizona State’s Johnny Walker’s skated into the Crusaders’ defensive zone with little pressure and fired a shot from the top of the right circle to beat Berrafato.  

2-1 HC (2nd, 6:58, EV): Danny Lopez skated in on Daccord alone to backhand the puck around the Arizona State goaltender’s pad. Michael Laffin and Peter Crinella picked up assists as they broke the puck out and found the open Lopez on the far board.

3-1 HC (2nd, 8:56, EV): From below the goal line Kevin Darrar sent the puck to T.J. Moore at the hash marks for a quick shot that Scott Pooley redirected on the back door for his 13th goal of the season.

3-2 ASU (2nd, 14:43, EV): On an offensive zone faceoff, Brinson Pasichnuk’s shot from the point beat Berrafato’s glove.

3-3 ASU (3rd, 15:34, EV): Brett Gruber shot from the top of the right circle to beat Berrafato.


  • Brett Mulcahy tallied his first and second assists of the season in back-to-back games. The senior assisted on the lone Holy Cross goal on Nov. 24 and added an assist on the first goal on Nov. 25.
  • Scott Pooley recorded 13th goal in 14 games. 


  • Holy Cross outshot Arizona State (42-31).
  • Holy Cross blocked 25 shots, with three Crusaders blocking three shots a piece.
  • Holy Cross held the advantage at the face off dot, winning 59% (44-31).
  • Paul Berrafato made 28 saves and Joey Daccord made 39.


The Crusaders will travel to Rochester, N.Y. to play RIT on Friday, December 1 and Saturday, Dec. 2 at 7:05 p.m at the Gene Polisseni Center.
