BOSTON, Mass. – The Holy Cross men’s soccer team was defeated by Boston University, 3-0 on Wednesday, Oct. 4 at Nickerson Field. The Crusaders move to 3-5-2 (1-1-1 Patriot League), while the Terriers improve to 4-6-1(3-0-0 Patriot League).

BU took the lead in the 13th minute when Matt McDonnell was awarded a penalty kick. The Terriers extended their lead to 2-0 when Statchel Cortet headed a ball on goal in the 22nd minute.

In the second half, BU’s Jerry Ozor fired a shot from the top of the 18-yard box, top shelf. Ozor’s goal gave the Terriers a three goal lead. Less than one minute later, Holy Cross generated an offensive bid with some chaos inside the six-yard box. But Luca Milidragovic’s header bounced off of the post.

Holy Cross was outshot by Boston University, 11-7.

Both teams had four corner kick opportunities.

BU had 14 fouls to Holy Cross’ 10.

"In games like this we need to go out and compete. In the first 20 minutes we gifted them two goals because we were not prepared to play and compete. In the rest of the first half we competed but in the second half we became too impatient. Again, we need to understand that every time we play a Patriot League game we need to show up and compete. We can’t pick and choose those moments."

  • This was the second matchup in the 2017-2018 Turnpike Trophy rivalry series between Holy Cross and Boston University. Women’s Soccer fell to BU on Sept. 27, 1-0.
  • The series awards points for all head-to-head victories in both the regular season and postseason, with the Turnpike Trophy going to the school which accumulates the most points at the end of the academic year.
  • Adam Sheikali of Boston University was named the MVP of Wednesday night's game.

  • The Crusaders host Bucknell on Oct. 7 at 2:05 p.m. at the Linda Johnson Smith Soccer Stadium.
