Field Hockey Falls to Quinnipiac in Overtime on Senior Day
WORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross field hockey team came up just short on Senior Day in a 4-3 overtime loss to Quinnipiac. Seniors Emily Loprete and Lauren Ineson each recorded points in their final game as Crusaders, but it wasn’t enough to top the Bobcats.
Quinnipiac got out to a 2-0 lead in the first half with goals from Bianke Strubbe and Brooke Whipkey. With under two minutes remaining in the half, Holy Cross would answer back when Ineson sent a long pass into the circle where freshman Keely Smith made a move around the goalie to bring the Crusaders back within one.
Holy Cross would control most of the second half adding two more goals to tie things up and then take the lead. First, in the 50th minute sophomore Kristen Weber sent a rebound screaming by the Bobcat goalie for her first collegiate goal. Then, less than a minute later, junior Madeline Alderfer fed a nice pass through Quinnipiac’s defense to Loprete who made a couple defenders miss before finding the back of the net for the 13th time this season to give the Crusaders the 3-2 lead.
The Bobcats would tie it up with 33 seconds left in the half and then Whipkey recorded the game-winner just 2:31 into overtime.
