BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Holy Cross men’s soccer team tallied three goals in the opening 13 minutes of the Patriot League Quarterfinal game to advance to the Semifinal on Nov. 10 at 8:05 p.m. With the three quick goals and unified defensive effort, the Crusaders defeated Lehigh in consecutive matches.

Arno Rupp scored his eighth goal of the season in the third minute when he blocked a clear from Lehigh’s keeper Will Smith. Rupp stripped Smith of the ball and shot into the open goal for an early 1-0 lead.

In the 12th minute, forward Nicholas Cestaro scored his third goal in the last four games. Max Krause tallied his first assist of the night, sending Cestaro free with a midfield pass. The forward ran down the right flank and beat off two Lehigh defenders and fired the ball into the top right corner of the goal.

Just over one minute later, Krause tallied another assist. The freshman sent a corner kick to the head of Brad Ross on the far post for his first of the season and a 3-0 Crusader lead.

In the second half, the Crusaders best chance came in the 47th minute. Mason Brummett let go of a rocket from 40-yards out that Smith got his fingertips on to send the ball off the crossbar.

Henry Stutz made a total of seven saves, tying a career-high. He made three saves in the second half to ward off Lehigh’s offensive press.

"Any team would want the perfect start like this and score three goals so quickly. The elements were tough and we took advantage of some counter opportunities, well taken and well followed up. The elements were very tough, it was slippery, wet, and soft. We maintained our discipline defensively and protected our three-nil lead. The effort brings the group together and they did a great job all throughout the game."


Holy Cross will take on No. 2-seeded Boston University in the Patriot League semifinals on Friday, Nov. 10 at 8:05 p.m. The game will be held in Baltimore, Md. at the Ridley Athletic Complex.
