Men's Soccer Adds Six to Class of 2022

WORCESTER, Mass. – Holy Cross head men’s soccer coach Marco Koolman has announced the freshman class for the 2018 season. Nic Andre (West Tisbury, Mass.), Simon Becher (Brooklyn, Conn.), Andres Chacon (Summit, N.J.), Dylan Scanley (New York, N.Y.), Alec Szwarcewicz (Newton, Mass.), and Matt Tibbetts (Lenox, Mass.) will join the Crusaders for the fall of 2018.

 

“I’m excited about our incoming freshman class,” said Koolman. “It is a group of players that will help strengthen our team in different areas. We need a well-versed group, including scoring power up fron to complement our forward line. I believe that our foundation is established and this class adds to the balance we need to continue to grow and elevate our program.”

  • Played club soccer for the FC Boston Bolts of the US Soccer Development Academy under head coach Dan Colwell
  • Ranked fifth in his class

Simon Becher | 6-1 | 185 | Brooklyn, Conn. | Woodstock Academy

  • Played for the Oakwood Soccer Club under head coach Kevin Bacher for three seasons
  • Helped his team to a Northeast Division Championship in 2016
  • Named to the East Conference of the US Soccer Academy league Best IX in 2016
  • Tallied over 70 goals in his time with Oakwood
  • Will travel to Honduras for a 12-day training trip and two matches against the Los Catrachos with the US U-20 Men’s National Team
  • One of seven players selected to have received Best XI conference selections selected to the 20-man U-20 MNT roster

Andres Chacon | 5-9 | 160 | Summit, N.J. | Summit High School

  • Played three seasons of varsity soccer at Summit under head coach Ashley Sularz
  • In the 2017 season, named to the All-Conference first team, All-Union County first team, and All-State first team
  • Named to the All-Conference second team in 2016 as well as All-County second team, and All-State honorable mention
  • Helped his team to a Mountain Division Conference Championship in 2016
  • Tallied a school record of 14 assists in a single season
  • Recorded 13 goals and 24 assists in his career at Summit
  • Played club soccer for PDA of the ECNL U-18 league under head coach Ferdinand Christian III

Dylan Scanley | 6-0 | 155 | New York, N.Y. | Xavier High School

  • Played one year varsity soccer for head coach Aiden Byrne
  • Awarded the Golden Boot, as the senior Athlete of the Month in September
  • Played club soccer for the Metropolitan Oval for head coach Filippo Giovagnoli
  • Captained the Oval in his senior season

Alec Szwarcewicz | 6-3 | 180 | Newton, Mass. | Newton South High School

  • Played club soccer for Global Premier Soccer of the National Premier League under head coach Matt Hardiman
  • Led his team to a national semifinal finish in 2017 and stat championship in 2015, 2016, and 2017
  • Recorded 30 goals in the 2016-2017 season

Matt Tibbetts | 6-1 | 175 | Lenox, Mass. | Lenox Memorial High School

  • Played three seasons of varsity soccer under head coach Matt Cote
  • Captained the team in the 2016 and 2017 seasons
  • Helped his team to win the Western Mass Championship in 2017
  • Led his team to the Berkshire North Championship in 2016
  • An All-South County selection in 2016 and 2017, All-Berkshire selection in 2015, 2016, and 2017, and an All-Western Mass selection in 2015, 2016, and 2017
  • Led his team to three Western Mass finals (2015, 2016, and 2017) before capturing the championship in 2017
  • Posted 25 career shutouts and made 324 saves
  • Played club soccer for the Western United Pioneers of the National Premier League under head-coach Devin O’Neill
  • Finished as a State Cup runner up in 2018
