Men's Soccer Defeats Army West Point on Senior Day, 3-2

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross men’s soccer team defeated the Black Knights, 3-2, on Oct. 28 at Senior Day. Three different goal scorers pushed the Crusaders ahead in the Patriot League battle. Simon Becher and Luka Milidragovic each tallied three points in the game, on one goal and one assist.
The Crusaders took a 1-0 lead in the 40th minute by way of R.J. Place. Owen Azrak dribbled the ball at the top of the 18-yard box and moved it over to Luka Milidragovic on the far side of the field. The sophomore defender quickly directed the ball into the six-yard box and hit a breaking Place for a tap-in goal.
Henry Stutz made three saves in the first 45 minutes of play.
Simon Becher tallied his first points of the day just 26 seconds into the second half. As the freshman forward rushed toward goal ahead of his defender and fired on Army’s keeper Justin Stoll. Stoll turned away the first shot, but Becher collected the rebound and evaded the defender to kick in his sixth of the season.
The Crusaders took a 3-0 lead in the 70th minute when Mason Brummett ran the ball up the sideline and fed Becher in the middle of the field. Becher chipped the ball above the Army defender and to a rushing Luka Milidragovic, who also chipped the ball but this time over Army’s keeper.
Army did not go away quietly, as they scored in the 77th and 83rd minute to push the game within one goal. Stutz turned aside three more shots in the second half to finish with six saves.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Holy Cross was outshot, 18-14.
- The Crusaders had five corner kicks to the Black Kinghts’ seven.

“A game we have been waiting for a year, where hard work and discipline paid off. Our seniors played well and in the last home game we showed that we have the quality to do it. We have to move forward and work off of this win.”
Holy Cross will play its final game of the 2018 season at Lehigh on Nov. 3 at 6:00 p.m.
