Holy Cross Defeats Sacred Heart, 13-9, On Senior Night

WORCESTER, Mass. - Senior Nikki Bolduc (Stratham, N.H.) scored five goals as the Holy Cross women's lacrosse team defeated Sacred Heart, 13-9, on Wednesday night at the Hart Turf Field in non-conference action in the last home game of the season for the Crusaders. With the win, the Crusaders improve to 5-10 overall, while the Pioneers fall to 9-7 overall.

Senior Kristine Corkum (Ipswich, Mass.) scored three goals, while freshman Meg O'Leary (Longmeadow, Mass.) recorded two goals and one assist. Freshman Annie Boylan (Andover, Mass.) also scored two goals, while senior Cashel Scanlon (Bethesda, Md.) scored once. Senior Amy Archambault (West Hartford, Conn.) and freshman Katie Gardner (Garden City, N.Y.) each had one assist.

Sacred Heart was led by Mary Montesarchio's two goals and four assists and Cori Horelik's three goals and one assist, while Alyssa Harris scored two goals.

Bolduc gave the Crusaders an early 1-0 lead when she scored just 22 seconds into the game. The Pioneers then answered with two goals, but Scanlon and Bolduc then scored as Holy Cross took a 3-2 advantage. Gardner assisted on Bolduc's goal. After Sacred Heart took a 4-3 lead with two goals, the Crusaders scored five straight goals to close out the half with an 8-4 lead. Bolduc scored two of the five goals, while O'Leary, Corkum and Boylan each had one.

Corkum started off the second half with a goal to increase the Holy Cross lead to 9-4. The Pioneers then answered with two goals to make it a 9-6 game. The teams then traded goals with Corkum scoring her third goal of the game. With the score 10-7, O'Leary scored off an assist by Archambault and Bolduc then scored her fifth goal of the game as Holy Cross increased its lead to 12-7. Bolduc's goal was assisted by O'Leary. After Sacred Heart scored, Boylan made it a 13-8 game with 1:39 left on the clock. The Pioneers then scored for the 13-9 final score.

Holy Cross freshman goalie Amy Martin (Bloomfield, Mich.) made eight saves, while Chelsea Wagner made three saves in the first 22:03 for Sacred Heart and Laurine Stafin made nine saves in 37:57. The Crusaders had 29 shots and 16 draw controls, while the Pioneers had 21 shots and eight draw controls.

The Crusaders return to action on Saturday, April 19, when they travel to Westwood High School in Westwood, Mass., to meet Boston College in the season-finale at noon.

Before the game, seniors Archambault, Bolduc, Corkum, Kaitlin Nangle (Skaneateles, N.Y.), Cara O'Sullivan (Duxbury, Mass.), Scanlon and Kelly Winslow (Norfolk, Mass.) were honored for their hard work and dedication to the team on and off the field.

This class has been one of the most successful classes in the history of Holy Cross women's lacrosse. During their time here the Crusaders won the first two Patriot League Championships and earned the first two NCAA appearances in the program's history. These seniors were a part of 42 wins and had a 17-6 Patriot League record.

Archambault has left a major impact on Holy Cross lacrosse. She has demonstrated incredible leadership as she was named a team captain as a junior and a senior. As a freshman she was named the Patriot League Rookie of the Year and earned a spot on the All-Patriot League First Team. As a junior she had at least one point in all 19 games and received second team All-Patriot League accolades. Archambault scored the game-winning goal against American in the 2007 Patriot League Tournament championship game. For her career she has 95 goals and 33 assists for 128 points. Archambault is also a two-time member of the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll.

Bolduc has been a major contributor to Holy Cross' success. She has 95 goals and 27 assists for 122 career points. As a junior, Bolduc earned first team All-Patriot League accolades as she also made the Patriot League All-Tournament Team. In 2006 she received second team All-Patriot League honors. This season she is having a career year with 36 goals, eight assists and 44 points as she leads the team in goals and points. Bolduc is also a member of the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll and is a strong leader as demonstrated by being named a senior captain.

Corkum has had an outstanding career at Holy Cross. She has recorded 118 goals and 32 assists for 150 career points in 74 games. She has the most career goals and points by any current Crusader. As a junior Corkum was named to the first team All-Patriot League, while she has earned a spot on the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll in every season.

Nangle has played in 54 career games with 35 goals and nine assists for 44 points. In 2007, Nangle had a career best four goals and five points in the victory over Siena. She also had a career best 20 points with 12 goals and eight assists as a junior.

O'Sullivan has been a huge reason why Holy Cross has had so much success defensively. She was a part of a defense that ranked first in the Patriot League in fewest goals allowed per game in 2006 and 2007. As a junior, O'Sullivan was named to the All-Patriot League First Team as well as to the Patriot League All-Tournament Team. For her career O'Sullivan has 17 goals and three assists for 20 points in 69 games. She is also a member of the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll and was named a team captain for her senior year.

Scanlon has 11 goals and 5 assists for 16 points in 32 career games. As a senior her five goals and three assists for eight points are all career best marks. In the season-opener at UMass, Scanlon led Holy Cross with a career best two goals and two assists. She is also a member of the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll.

Winslow has played in 63 games with 27 goals and 19 assists for 46 points. As a senior she has 10 goals and six assists for 16 points, while her 40 draw controls lead the team. Winslow has also been outstanding in the classroom as she has been on the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll in every season.
