Sara Hennessey Named To Patriot League All-Academic Team

WORCESTER, Mass. – Holy Cross women's lacrosse senior captain Sara Hennessey (Winchester, Mass.) has been named to the Patriot League All-Academic team. This is the first time that Hennessey has earned this honor.

Hennessey, who is a Psychology major, just recently earned first team All-Patriot League accolades. This was the first time that Hennessey had been named to the first team as she was a second team selection in 2013. On Tuesday, April 22 in the 10-8 win versus Colgate in the Patriot League quarterfinals, she tallied three goals and one assist for four points. Hennessey leads the team this season with 29 goals, while she is third with 35 points and is fourth with six assists. She is also third on the team with 22 draw controls. Hennessey has played in 64 career games with 123 goals and 15 assists for 138 points. She also has 10 career game-winning goals. Her 123 goals are fourth all-time in program history and her 138 points are ninth. Also her 125 career draw controls are fourth all-time and her 48 caused turnovers are sixth. She is a three-time member of the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll, while she is a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and the Holy Cross Leadership Academy.

To be eligible for the All-Academic team the student-athlete has to have at least a 3.20 total grade point average and be a starter or a key player in his/her sport. Freshmen or students in their first academic year at their school are not eligible for the honor.

The No. 4 seeded Crusaders (7-11, 4-4 PL) will take on No. 1 seed and No. 12 nationally ranked Loyola (Md.) (12-4, 8-0 PL) on Thursday, April 24 at 5:00 p.m., in Baltimore, Md., at the Ridley Athletic Complex in the Patriot League semifinals. No. 3 seed Boston University (8-9. 5-3 PL), which defeated No. 6 seed Lehigh, 14-9, in the other quarterfinal game, will play No. 2 seed Navy (14-2, 6-2 PL) at 7:30 p.m. The winners will meet in the championship game on Saturday, April 26 at 1:00 p.m. The champion will earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
