Three Women's Lacrosse Players Earn All-Patriot League Honors

WORCESTER, Mass. – Three Holy Cross women's lacrosse players have earned 2011 All-Patriot League honors. Junior Catherine Furman (Garden City, N.Y.) was named to the first team, while senior captain Meg O'Leary (Longmeadow, Mass.) and junior Kat Sutton (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) earned second team accolades.

This is the first time that Furman has earned All-Patriot League honors. This season she played in 16 games with 16 starts and was a major leader on defense for the Crusaders. She tied for fifth on the team with 17 ground balls and 10 caused turnovers. She also recorded 12 draw controls. For her career, she has four goals and one assist for five points in 49 games, while she has 53 ground balls, 28 caused turnovers and 34 draw controls.

Meg O'Leary

This is the third straight season that O'Leary has earned All-League honors as she made the second team in 2009 and the first team in 2010. She concluded her career with 114 points with 77 goals and 37 assists. O'Leary's 64 career caused turnovers are tied for second all-time in program history. Her 37 career assists are sixth all-time at the school, while her 80 draw controls are fifth all-time. This season she was fourth on the team with 20 goals, tied for third with eight assists and was third with 28 points. Her 20 caused turnovers tied for the team-lead and are tied for fifth all-time for a season at the school. She led the team with a career-best 39 ground balls as her 2.29 ground balls per game are 58th nationally. Also in 2010 she made the Patriot League All-Tournament team. O'Leary is also a three-time member of the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll.

This is the second straight season that Sutton has earned All-Patriot League accolades as she also was named to the second team last year. She led the team this season with 35 goals and a career-best 44 points, while she was second with a career-best nine assists. She tied for the team-lead with 27 draw controls and was tied for third with a career-best 21 ground balls. Her 79 career draw controls are sixth all-time at the school. She now has 91 goals and 19 assists for 110 points. This season she also led the team with 14 free-position goals and her 0.82 free-position goals per game are fourth in the Patriot League.

Kat Sutton

The Crusaders concluded the 2011 season with a 6-11 overall record (3-3 Patriot League).
