Men's Track And Field Competes For Fourth Place At The Jay Carisella Invitational

The Lead:  Sophomore Brandon Thornhill set a personal record time of 8.38 (prelims) in the 60-meter hurdles, taking third place in the finals with a time of 8.42, as the Holy Cross men’s track and field team finished fourth place overall out of four Division I teams at the Jay Carisella Invitational on Saturday. This is the second straight meet Thornhill posted a New England qualifying time in this event.


  • Holy Cross competed in just 11 events total, as four different Crusaders set personal records.
  • Sophomore Sawyer Badey hit a personal record in the triple jump with a distance of 12.54 meters, landing in seventh place overall.
  • Junior James Donohue posted a time of 51.93 for a 10th place finish out of 21 runners in the 400-meter dash finals with freshman Freddie Halloran right behind him in 13th place with a time of 52.28.
  • Senior Benjamin Ghiano ran for ninth place out of 18 runners in the 500-meter run with a time of 1:09.27.
  • With a time of 9:01.22, junior Bryan Gallagher captured a personal record and ninth place for the Crusaders in the 3,000-meter run.
  • Clearing a height of 4.05 meters, senior co-captain Michael Araujo took sixth place in the pole vault. Following Araujo in seventh place was sophomore Christopher Puntasecca who cleared a personal record height of 3.90 meters.
  • The host team Northeastern won the meet with 299 points and notched eight first-place finishes.


  • The Crusaders return to action after break on Jan. 14, when Holy Cross competes at the Tiger Invitational in Boston.
