Men’s Track And Field Concludes Action At Patriot League Indoor Championship

The Lead: The men’s track and field team concluded action at the Patriot League Indoor Championship on Sunday, taking ninth place overall, as three different Crusaders hit a personal record mark.


  • Sophomore Brandon Thornhill captured a sixth-place finish in the 60-meter hurdles finals, recording a time of 8.47.
  • Senior co-captain Michael Araujo hit a personal record time in the pole vault with his mark of 4.50 meters, finishing a tied eighth-place overall in that event.
  • Sophomore Joseph Prunty re-set his career-best standard for the second time this season in the one mile run, registering a time of 4:14.63. Prunty finished ninth overall in the race, just one place away from scoring.
  • Junior Thomas Kalantzakos ran for 11th place in the 800-meter run, setting a new personal record mark of 1:56.04.
  • Both the relay squads scored points for Holy Cross. First in the 4x400-meter relay, the team of Thornhill, freshman Freddie Halloran, Kalantzakos and junior James Donohue notched a time of 3:21.54 for seventh place.
  • Next in the 4x800-meter relay, the team of senior co-captain Michael Andre, Kalantzakos, Prunty and senior Henry Dodge took eighth place.
  • Winning the Patriot League Indoor Championship was Navy with 187 points.


  • The Crusaders return to action on Feb. 24-25 when Holy Cross takes on the New England Indoor Championship in Boston.


  • The track and field Patriot League Indoor Championship served as part of the second annual Turnpike Trophy competition where Holy Cross and Boston University square off throughout the year. Boston University now holds a 10-1 lead.
  • This athletic series between the in-state Patriot League rivals awards points for all head-to-head victories in both the regular season and postseason, with the Turnpike Trophy going to the school which accumulates the most points at the end of the academic year.
  • The Turnpike Trophy series continues on Feb. 25, when the men’s and women’s basketball teams face one another. Both tip-offs are set for 2:00 p.m. with the women competing in Boston and the men taking the court in Worcester.
