WORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross men’s hockey team was defeated by Canisius, 7-6, at the Hart Center. Five different Crusaders recorded more than one point and eight found their way onto the scoresheet with at least one point. Matt Barry led the way with two goals and one assist and Johnny Coughlin added two assists and a power play goal. The Crusaders drop to 1-1-0, 1-1-0 AHA and Canisius improves to 1-1-0 and 1-1-0 in league play.


In the first period Holy Cross jumped to a 3-1 lead. Anthony Vincent scored his first career goal with a tip-in shot in the slot to take a 1-0 lead. Canisius evened the score quickly after but Frank Boie backhanded one in immediately after to, keep the Crusader lead, 2-1. Barry collected his first of the day on a penalty shot.


The second period saw to Golden Griffin goals and one Crusader goal. Barry added a power play tally early in the period. Canisuis scored nearly two minutes later and then capped off the period with a power play goal with 10 seconds remaining in the second to close the period, 4-3.


Holy Cross kicked off the scoring in the third period when Logan Ferguson scored 57 seconds into the third period for a 5-3 Crusader lead. Canisius responded at 3:06 from Lee Lapid. Coughlin recorded Holy Cross’ second power play of the day nearly two minutes later to keep the lead, 6-4. The Golden Griffins scored three unanswered goals in the remainder of the period to take the game, 7-6.

  • Fank Boie and Logan Ferguson marked a career highs, each scoring two points with a goal and an assist.
  • Erik Gordon recorded 21 saves in his debut.
  • The Crusaders and Golden Griffins were even in shots, 32-32.
  • Holy Cross went 2-6 on the power play and 5-6 on the penalty kill.
  • Neil Robinson added two assists in the game.




The Crusaders head to St. Lawrence on Oct. 19 for a 7:00 p.m. game.
