Men's Hockey Defeated By RIT, 5-3
ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Holy Cross men’s hockey team was edged by the RIT Tigers in a high-scoring battle for their second Atlantic Hockey loss of the season.
The Tigers opened the scoring midway through the opening period and Ryan Ferrill responded for the Crusaders less than three minutes later. RIT took the lead, 2-1, to close the first period. Holy Cross scored a power play goal followed by a breakaway goal to take a 3-2 lead midway through the middle frame but the Tigers scored with less than three minutes remaining in the period to send the game into the final 20 minutes tied, 3-3.
RIT scored 2:33 into the third period to take the lead and added an empty net goal with five seconds remaining.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
1-0 RIT (1st, 9:54, EV): RIT rushed the puck into the Crusaders’ defensive zone and Myles Powell fired the puck off of Berrafato. The rebound deflected off of Regan Seiferling and into the net.
1-1 HC (1st, 12:25, EV): With Mitch Collett and Brett Mulcahy forchecking on the half-wall, the puck popped out and Ryan Ferrill picked it up. Ferrill circled to the slot and fired a wrist shot past RIT’s Christian Short’s blocker.
2-1 RIT (1st, 14:09, EV): RIT’s Adam Brubacher picked up a loose puck along the blue line and shot through traffic to beat Berrafato.
2-2 HC (2nd, 6:50, PP): From behind the goal, Johnny Coughlin passed to T.J. Moore in the right corner. Moore sent a pass across the goal line to Danny Lopez on the far post. Lopez took a shot and collected his own rebound to throw another attempt at goal. The puck bounced around in the crease and into the net.
3-2 HC (2nd, 7:56, EV): Tommy Muratore pressured an RIT player at the Crusaders’ defensive blue-line and picked his pocket to send himself on a breakaway. Muratore skated in on Short, faked a shot and backhanded the puck into the net.
3-3 RIT (2nd, 17:49, EV): In transition, Abbott Girduckis shot a puck at Berrafato from the top of the right faceoff circle that bounced past the goaltender and over the goal line.
4-3 RIT (3rd, 2:33, EV): Mark Logan sent a slapshot from the halfwall towards goal that went in on the near post.
5-3 RIT (3rd, 19:54, EV): Erik Brown scored an empty net goal from below the faceoff circle.
- Mitch Collett, T.J. Moore, and Scott Pooley are the only Crusader to have recorded at least one point in each weekend of play thus far in the 2017-18 season.
- Tommy Muratore scored his first goal of the 2017-18 season.
- Danny Lopez has scored five goals in the Crusaders last seven games.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- RIT outshot Holy Cross (35-30).
- Paul Berrafato recorded 30 saves.
- The Crusaders went 1-4 on the power play and 2-2 on the penalty kill.
The Crusaders will play non-conference opponent, Union College, on Dec. 9 in Schenectady, N.Y. at 7:00 p.m. in their final game before the break.
