Julie Matthias Named Hockey East Co-Player of the Week
WORCESTER, Mass. – Holy Cross women’s hockey senior forward Julie Matthias has been named Hockey East Co-Player of the Week for her performance last week. The award marks the first time the Crusaders have been recognized by Hockey East and it is Matthias’ first individual award since she was named New England Women’s Hockey Alliance Player of the Week last season on Dec. 7. Boston University's Sammy Davis was also honored by the league.
Matthias helped to lead Holy Cross to an historic 5-3 win over No. 5 Northeastern in the team’s first win of the season, first Hockey East win in program history, and first upset of a top-five team. She recorded four assists in the game, including one on the game-winning goal, for a new career high. The four points are also the most she has had since Jan. 5 of last season when she had five in an 11-1 win over Post. Matthias is now tied for second on the team with five points from one goal and the four assists.
The Crusaders will wrap up play before the new year on Friday, Dec. 7 when they travel to No. 8 Providence.
