Alanna Hitscherich Named Patriot League Field Athlete Of The Week
WORCESTER, Mass. – Holy Cross junior Alanna Hitscherich has been named the Patriot League Field Athlete of the Week for competition from April 3-9, as announced by the conference on Tuesday. This marks the third league accolade Hitscherich has received this year, as she previously earned Academic All-Patriot League and second team All-Patriot League honors during the indoor track and field season.
Hitscherich set a new outdoor school record of 5.78 meters in the long jump for the Holy Cross women’s track and field team in competition at the Tiger Track Classic in Auburn, Ala. last weekend. This is the second record Hitscherich has set this year, having broken the indoor long jump record too with her distance of 5.84 meters at the Patriot League Indoor Championship in Boston on Feb. 18.
Hitscherich landed in eighth place out of 34 opponents in the long jump, as her distance currently ranks first in the Patriot League and serves as an ECAC Outdoor Championship qualifier. She also hit a personal record of 11.72 meters in the triple jump and notched a career-best time of 15.00 seconds in the 100-meter hurdles.
In addition to her school-record marks in the long jump, Hitscherich has the best marks on the team this season in the 55-meter hurdles (8.50 seconds), the 60-meter hurdles (8.85 seconds), the 100-meter hurdles (15.00 seconds) and the triple jump (11.72 meters).
The Crusaders return to action on Saturday, April 15, when they travel to Amherst, Mass., for the Minuteman Invitational at 11:30 a.m.
