Matherne Named to the Academic All-Patriot League Team
WORCESTER, Mass. - Holy Cross women's track and field senior Zoe Matherne was named to the Academic All-Patriot League Team. In order to be eligible for the Academic All-Patriot League Team, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average and be a key contributor to his or her sport. This is the third time Matherne has been nominated for the Academic All-Patriot League Team (between cross country and track and field).
Matherne owns a 3.600 grade point average as a history major and serves as the vice president for the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. During the 2017-2018 indoor season, Matherne notched an ECAC qualifiying mark in the 1000m with a finals time of 2:51.50 at the Husky Invitational on Dec. 10. Against New Hampshire, Matherne placed first in the 1000m with a finals time of 3:01.07. Matherne also placed first in the mile run with a time of 5:01.93 at the same meet. She received the Patriot League Track Athlete of the Week award after her performances against New Hampshire.
The senior finished fourth overall in the 800m and set a new Holy Cross indoor record with a finals time of 2:08.07, which is .02 seconds off of her personal-best time, at the John Thomas Terrier Classic on Jan. 26. At the New England Championships on Feb. 3, Matherne finished second in the 1mile run with a finals time of 4:53.03, which was a personal best and beat her previous ECAC qualifying time. At the Patriot League Championships, she finished second in the 800m with a time of 2:12.22, which qualified her for the ECACs.
At the BU Last Chance meet on Feb. 25, Matherne broke the school mile record with a time of 4:47.18 and finished eighth.
Matherne will compete at the ECACs on March 2-4 in Boston, Mass.
