Christian Emmerich Qualifies for 2019 U.S. Amateur Championship
EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Holy Cross incoming freshman Christian Emmerich has qualified to play in the 2019 United States Amateur Championship, which will take place at the Pinehurst Resort and Country Club in Pinehurst, N.C., from Aug. 12-18. He will become just the second Holy Cross golfer to compete in the U.S. Amateur in the last 45 years, joining three-time qualifier Steve Zychowski (2010, 2012 and 2013).
Emmerich earned his spot in the field by placing third in a qualifying tournament held at the Metacomet Golf Club in East Providence, R.I., on July 8. He finished with a total of 135 strokes over 36 holes (five-under par), to earn third place behind Notre Dame junior David Chatfield (133) and recent Chattanooga graduate Etienne Brault (134).
In addition to the U.S. Amateur, Emmerich has also qualified for the 2019 Boys Junior PGA Championship, which will take place at the Keney Park Golf Course in Hartford, Conn., from July 30-Aug. 2.
