Volleyball Named Volunteer Group of the Year by Pink Hippy
The Holy Cross volleyball team received the Volunteer of the Year award from PinkHippy.org at the organization’s sixth annual luncheon on Sunday, April 14.
Over the past two years, the Crusaders have raised a total of $7,749 for PinkHippy.org, a Worcester-based non-profit organization that works to provide services and support for cancer patients, survivors and their families.
The team’s efforts helped to fund the oncology massage program, and the student-athletes also acted as “Santa’s Elves” and personal shopping assistants during Pink Hippy’s Holiday Shopping event, which provided an opportunity for cancer patients to gift shop for free in a fun and relaxing environment.
Del Bachand, President of the PinkHippy.org Board of Directors, said while presenting the award that not only did the team “bring light to area cancer patients through your support of PinkHippy.org, but you did it while preparing, practicing and playing a 29-game season and maintaining a rigorous academic load, with nine members of the team being named to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll.”
“I am proud of our girls for how they have continuously given over the past two years,” said Holy Cross assistant volleyball coach Eric Buggs. “Every year we continue to truly embody being women for others. Seeing how much all their hard work has paid off to help patients who are battling cancer is great to see, and knowing that all of our hard work helps local women and families is bringing us closer to the New England community. We look forward to continuing to grow our relationship with Pink Hippy.”
