WORCESTER, Mass –The Holy Cross volleyball team defeated Lafayette 3-0 Saturday night at the Hart Center. The Crusaders led the Leopards in all categories and picked up their first Patriot League victory. Holy Cross had three players in double-digit kills and a team hitting percentage of .343.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
Freshman middle hitter Clare Honan recorded 12 kills (.400 hitting percentage) and four blocks. Honan has recorded double-digit kills in her last three matches.
Freshman setter Rachel Harding notched 12 kills (.348 hitting percentage) and nine digs.
The Crusaders' offense had a .343 hitting percentage and kept the Leopards to hitting only .020.
Holy Cross' total kills was more than double the Leopards' total.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Harding led the Crusaders in the first set with six kills. The Crusaders jumped to a 13-7 lead after a kill by freshman outside hitter Emmerson Smith. After a kill by Harding, the Crusaders took the lead to 22-14. Holy Cross was able to capture the first set 25-15.
After a kill by Kerins, Holy Cross regained a 10-9 lead over the Leopards. Later in the set, Kerins notched another kill and took the lead to 19-14. The Crusaders held on to the lead and won the second set 25-18.
Honan led the Crusaders with seven kills in the third set. The Crusaders never gave up the lead and won the set 25-18 and the match 3-0.
The Crusaders are on the road against Navy next Friday, Oct. 27 at 7:00 p.m.
