Crusaders Set to Face Rhode Island at the DCU Center
The Holy Cross men’s basketball team will be in downtown Worcester this weekend, when it plays host to Rhode Island at the DCU Center on Saturday, Dec. 8, at 1:05 p.m. The contest between the Crusaders and the Rams can be seen online through the Patriot League Network, and will also air live on WEEI 1440 AM in Worcester.
Holy Cross is off to a 6-3 start this season and has won five of its last six games. The Crusaders are coming off an 82-78 victory at UMass on Tuesday. Holy Cross currently leads the Patriot League in scoring defense (65.2 points per game), assists (18.3 assists per game), blocked shots (4.0 blocks per game), turnover margin (+3.9 turnovers per game) and assist-turnover ratio (1.7-to-1).
Sophomore guard Jacob Grandison has led the team by averaging 16.6 points, 4.9 rebounds and 3.4 assists per game, while sophomore guard Austin Butler has added 11.7 points and 4.9 boards per contest. Four other Crusaders are averaging at least seven points, led by sophomore guard Caleb Green (10.8 points per game).
Rhode Island stands 3-3 so far this year, and has lost two of its last three games. The Rams are coming off a 59-50 setback at Providence last Saturday. Junior guard Jeff Dowtin has led the team by averaging 16.3 points, 4.0 rebounds and 3.8 assists per game, while hitting 73.9 percent of his free throw attempts. Junior forward Cyril Langevine has added 15.2 points and 11.3 boards per contest, and sophomore guard Fatts Russell is chipping in with 11.3 points, 3.3 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game. Rhode Island is led by head coach David Cox, who stands 3-3 in his first season with the Rams.
After the contest with Rhode Island, the Crusaders will break for final exams before returning to action with a home game against Canisius on Thursday, Dec. 20 (2:05 p.m.).
