BALTIMORE, Md. – Freshman forward Jacob Grandison scored a career-high 21 points to lead the Holy Cross men’s basketball team to a 73-57 victory over Loyola (Md.) at Reitz Arena. The Crusaders improve to 8-15 on the season and 5-7 in the Patriot League with the win, while the Greyhounds fall to 7-16 overall and 5-7 in the conference.

Holy Cross hit 54.2 percent of its field goal attempts and 85.0 percent of its free throws on the day, in addition to holding a 32-26 rebounding advantage. The Crusaders also limited Loyola to just 37.7 percent shooting from the floor, including 23.1 percent from three-point range.

Junior forward Jehyve Floyd finished the game with 14 points, six rebounds and five blocked shots, while freshman guard Caleb Green posted 12 points, five rebounds, four assists and three steals. Junior forward Karl Charles added 12 points, five rebounds and three assists, and freshman guard Austin Butler chipped in with 10 points, seven rebounds and three steals. The Greyhounds were led by Andrew Kostecka with 14 points.

                                                                                   

MAN OF THE MATCH PRESENTED BY THE UNITED STATES MARINES:

  • Following the contest, Grandison was selected as the Man of the Match presented by the United States Marines.
  • He hit seven of 10 field goal attempts, three of four three-pointers and four of five free throws on the day.

 

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Holy Cross started the game hot, jumping out to an early 13-2 lead with 13:53 left in the first half.
  • The Crusaders later led by 17 points (30-13), before Loyola trimmed the margin to 13 (39-26) heading into the locker room at halftime.
  • The Greyhounds continued to chip away at the lead early in the second half, eventually closing to within eight (50-42) with 12:52 remaining.
  • Holy Cross then used an 11-2 run to put the game, with Grandison scoring five of his points in that spurt.
  • The Crusaders went on to lead by as many as 18 points, before finally posting a 16-point victory.

  

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:

  • Floyd made five of six field goal attempts on the day, with his one miss in the second half snapping his school-record streak of consecutive field goals made at 20.
  • Holy Cross had five players score in double figures for the second time this season.
  • The Crusaders swept the regular season series from the Greyhounds, and now lead the all-time series 10-6.
