Softball downed by Lehigh Friday

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross softball team was upended 6-1 by Patriot League opponent Lehigh Friday afternoon on Freshman Field.

The win moves the guest Mountain Hawks to 36-10, 13-0 PL while the Crusaders slide to 15-33-1, 2-14 PL.

Freshman Anna Brait was 1-for-2 with a walk and a run scored in the contest. She expanded her reached base streak to 11 games.
 
STARTING IN THE CIRCLE:
  • Chloe Hess: W, (14-4), complete game, four hits allowed, earned run, four walks, 10 strikeouts.
  • Freshman Sophia Roncone: L, (6-18), 4.1 innings pitched, seven hits allowed, five earned runs, four walks, strikeout.
IN RELIEF:
  • Senior Peyton Morehouse: 2.2 innings pitched, three hits allowed, earned run, two walks.
STEPPING TO THE PLATE:
  • Lily Owens: 2-for-4, RBI, run scored, stolen base.
  • Sydney Parlett: 3-for-3, RBI, run scored, walk.
  • Lindsey Martin: 1-for-2, double, walk, two RBI.
  • Anna Brait: 1-for-2, run scored, walk.
  • Sophomore Callie Thibault: 1-for-1, pinch hit RBI single.
  • Junior Jessica Mott: 1-for-2, two walks.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • A single to center with two outs scored the first run of the game for Lehigh with two away in the top of the fourth. They added two more when Martin doubled into the right field center field gap which brought home two runs, however, Martin was thrown out at third to end the inning.
  • In the fourth, Brait legged out an infield single to shortstop which led off the frame. Freshman Ali Sniegocki followed with a single of her own to put two on and one out. Holy Cross stranded the runners as they trailed 3-0.
  • A sacrifice fly and a bunt single tacked on two insurance runs in the fifth for the Mountain Hawks as they led 5-0.
  • Brait worked a full count walk and advanced into scoring position on a wild pitch. Thibault pinch hit and smacked an opposite field single to right center to bring in Brait for the first Crusader run.
DUE UP:
  • The Crusaders will play a Senior Day doubleheader on Saturday, April 29 against Lehigh.
  • First pitch is scheduled for 10 a.m.
